Jake Ryder wanted the Navy to be his life; however, a heart condition led to a career change. Now, Jake works for an organization called KOAN, which specializes in a type of troubleshooting that requires men of Jake’s caliber(i.e., Seals, Special Forces). The latest job appears to be a garden-variety protection detail until Jake learns who the protectee is. Jake is familiar with Daisy Jonas, as she made quite a first impression when they initially met. Daisy resents the need for a keeper, but as she intends to infiltrate a financial company involved in a large-scale fraud, her boss believes vigilance is essential. The concern for Daisy’s well-being is warranted after Daisy and Jake discover the dead body of an employee in her new office building, and Daisy learns that more than a few deaths revolve around a company that is involved with investments in cryptocurrency. Events are further complicated as Jake and Daisy’s relationship evolves from employee/client to something deeper.

Only the Devil is a sexy, suspenseful thriller that proves arresting from its inception. Daisy Jonas is a beautiful and smart young woman seeking retribution against the company she believes fleeced her surrogate uncle and possibly killed him for trying to organize a class action suit against the corporation. Jake Ryder is the eagle-eyed man of action who takes to his latest mission with aplomb in convincing Daisy’s employers that the pair are a couple. The romantic tension between Daisy and Jake is charged in the beginning, and once they surrender to their mutual desires, the drama is amplified as they contemplate the depth of their feelings and the danger they face as Daisy gets further into her job. Author Isabel Jolie has written a terrific novel packed with romance, action, and corporate malfeasance that never lacks excitement.
