Jovian Son by Kim Catanzarite
follows They Will Be Coming for Us and it is a spellbinding conclusion to the
Jovian Duology. The Jovians have nurtured the plot to take over the Earth for a
long time, and the key to accomplishing that plan is Evander, Svetlana's son.
Svetlana has kept him hidden for ten years, living in an obscure town in
Russia, with her adopted sister, Helena. As the young boy grows stronger, more
intelligent, and kind, his mother knows the Jovians will be coming for him —
and they finally come. What will she do to get her son back?
Kim Catanzarite's novel is well-plotted and the
heroine of the tale is a bundle of conflicting emotions as she struggles to
keep her son safe from aliens. The psychological conflict is expertly written
and the emotional tension grows from page to page. The author does a wonderful
job with premonition and writing strong motivation into the characters.
Catanzarite writes the backstory effortlessly, making it easy for new readers
to quickly get into the story. The characters are believable and the heroine, a
woman who knows she is about to lose her son, is intelligently written into
scenes that feel real. Her thoughts are brilliantly mirrored through streams of
consciousness, her overprotective attitude towards Evander, and her desperation
when he is taken by the Jovians. Overall, Jovian
Son is a well-crafted tale with an irresistible appeal to fans of science
fiction — crisp writing, superior storytelling, and intriguing
characters.
