My Winter Song to You by Laurel Osterkamp is a
heartwarming romance that is exceptionally well written and perfect for the
holiday season. Morgan Bradley is coming home for the holidays—jobless,
heartbroken, and desperately holding onto hope. Her Broadway dreams and her
relationship with pop star Patrick Sterling have both cooled, leaving her at a
crossroads. In the quiet town of Sugar Pine, Colorado, she finds a chance to
save her family’s struggling theater, and maybe herself, by staging Bohemian
Winter, the musical she began writing with her childhood best friend, Max. Max
has always loved her and has written music for her, and now, it breaks his
heart to see her come home heartbroken, but at least she has big dreams. Max is
excited to produce her show, but as snow falls and opening night approaches,
Morgan and Max must decide if their story ends on stage or if they’re starting
to write something real.
This one literally sucked me in, and I never noticed the
time passing by. I read it through the night and was like, “Wow, what a
delightful read.” The characters are written with depth, and they are deeply
flawed. Morgan is depicted as emotionally broken, but I was drawn to her inner
strength and determination to fight. The relationships between the characters
sparkle through the pages, and I enjoyed the delivery in the intimate first-person
narrative voice that alternates between the points of view of Morgan and Max. Laurel
Osterkamp is a master storyteller with a unique gift for exploring the psyche
and inner worlds of the characters. You will feel them, experience them through
tense moments, and read with excitement as you want to discover what happens
next. Max provides a grounding presence while Morgan’s family reflects layers
of history, love, and tension. Osterkamp’s lyrical prose and rich
characterizations make this book a compelling reflection on growth,
forgiveness, and the pursuit of dreams. It is hilarious and full of musical
theater magic. My Winter Song to You delivers a friends-to-lovers
holiday romance that will melt your heart, perfect for fans of The Hating
Game by Sally Thorne
and Beach Read by Emily Henry.
