Chet Baker's twisty, psychological thriller presents a
complex, elaborately molded protagonist who sets out in search of his missing
girlfriend. Peter ''Pete'' Longer believes a curse runs through his
family and he has another personality in him called Jason. As a teenager, he
was committed to a state institution after killing a woman. He managed to
escape and got into Columbia University using a false identity. When he met
Sarah Montrose in a Church in Colorado, everything changes for him. They fall
in love and Sarah, who has a trust fund, gives him a life he never believed
possible. Peter believes she is the cure for the curse that runs through his
family. That is until Sarah goes missing and the police abandons her case.
Partnered with Richard Redd, Denver police detective, Peter is determined to
find her. But will he or will he be doomed forever, waiting for the Wren to
harvest his soul?
Bloodline Run by
Chet Baker is a briskly paced, engaging tale for readers who enjoy finely
written thrillers that brim with realism. Baker's writing features mature
themes, at times disturbing ones. The protagonist is a fully drawn character
whose inner world is filled with murkiness; he is unpredictable and this
unpredictability in his character reflects on the gripping plot. The reader is
hardly sure of what Peter would do next. This novel is sharp, smart, and
potent, and Baker knows how to toil with the emotions of readers. He builds on
the excitement of newfound love then plunges readers down the dark path of
loss. Bloodline Run is a cleverly plotted novel with gorgeous prose and
sparkling dialogues.
