The FBI has an asset in Jolene, a shrewd woman who can get to the bottom of cold cases. The local agents give her carte blanche in picking the unsolved mystery and then begin the investigation. Murder of Innocence is a delightful mystery with elements of humor and drama thrown in. Jolene Johnson is a woman with law enforcement in her DNA and while she possesses some of her father’s attributes, her detective skills are unsurpassed. Despite her unquestioned ability, she remains modest. While she is in a relationship with Agent Bley, she is close to the older Agent Haines. While the three travel into parts unknown, their esprit des corps is refreshing and genuine. The small town with dark secrets is often seen in mysteries, but author Laura Burke takes this theme in a completely new direction. The danger is in the air but not seen until the last moment thus rendering it more authentic. This story has a strong protagonist and a mystery at its core that will appeal to any fan of the genre. Murder of Innocence presents characters with weaknesses that make them compelling and intimate worlds that are detailed and fascinating.
