What happens when the COVID-19 pandemic
gets out of hand? Exactly how much can governments intervene in the life
of the common man? GIVID by Sosena Audain is a tale of the
dystopian USA where vaccinations are mandatory, and the government keeps its
record in full. Learn about the gray area between right and wrong in this
thrilling story.
It’s the year 2024, and the
coronavirus pandemic only keeps progressing. To keep all citizens of the state
safe and protected, governments of countries worldwide are forcing them to get
vaccinated. Although the old vaccinations were to be undertaken voluntarily,
the state-mandated new vaccinations are compulsory. Every citizen who gets
vaccinated is given a GIVID (Government Issued Vaccination ID), which has a bar
code and the person’s vaccination status. An army of civilians rises against
the GIVID and the rebels are led by a 17-year-old computer genius, Zed
Middleton, who calls himself Lord GIVID. Even with most people supporting Lord
GIVID, 16-year-old Audra Raisa believes her voice is the only one of reason and
bravery among the noise demanding change as she stands against Lord GIVID to
challenge his views.
The GIVID by Sosena Audain is a fascinating read that discusses the
possibility of a world where COVID is a never-ending nightmare. It is resonant,
realistic, and sprinkled with commentaries that contemporary readers will
appreciate. In this book, GIVID scanning has become the norm as the governments
set up scanners in all establishments. Whether you want to get a job or a meal
at a restaurant, you must have a GIVID to show. This is a novel that re-opens
the dialogue around handling Covid-19 and the question of individual rights. I
adored the intelligent manner in which the conflict is handled, the boldness in
the writing, and the deft handling of both the heroine and hero of the tale. This
is an entertaining tale from a good storytelling teller and a promising author
to watch out for.
