Rafael Jerome: A Novel by
Tobias Maxwell is a novel with an irresistible appeal to fans of LGBTQ, a
deftly plotted narrative with compelling dialogues and elaborately written
characters. The author skillfully writes about how human actions can generate
strong ripples in the lives of others; a moment of rape leaves a stigma in the
soul. Same-sex attraction is skillfully written and Tobias Maxwell writes about
these mature themes with a lot of respect. The author weaves suspense in the
narrative by exploring the unrequited love that Jeremy has for Justin and
Gary’s desire to capture Rafael’s attention. The novel delivers a lot of twists
to keep the suspense brewing. The characters are first-rate, believable, and
lovable. The world-building is inventive and Maxwell succeeds to capture the
hearts of readers with the lively narrative voice and the relentless drama that
fills the pages of this exciting story. While there is so much to love in this
book, what kept me turning the pages is the gorgeous prose and the excellent
storytelling.
