Bulwark is a small town in Georgia, and contrary
to popular belief, it isn’t as quiet and peaceful as it
once was. The Sheriff of the small town, Clay Finnes, is either in denial of
what's happening around him or he is too distracted with thoughts about Jenna,
wondering if she will come back to him. His marriage broke apart after his
daughter fell victim to a cruel abduction. While Clay may never find the
answers to why his life has spiraled out of control, one thing
remains certain: his visit to the Gingerbread House will change his life
forever. A car accident has the Sheriff report to the crime
scene. When the ambulance fails to make it, Clay
decides to drive an injured couple to the hospital.
Unfortunately, the lady does not survive, but before she passes, she
mumbles a few words that are bound to make this investigation a
lot trickier and maybe even bloody.
Bulwark is Brit Lunden’s first adult fiction novel and one that doesn’t disappoint, drawing in readers with different outstanding literary elements. It is fast-paced, well-balanced, and deftly written to offer an irresistible appeal to fans of paranormal thrillers. This book gets a little creepy at times, but the excitement and thrill are undeniably strong. The characters are rock-solid, including werewolves, witches, and vampires, and they are written into focused and action-packed scenes readers who love adventure will enjoy. This book will give readers Hansel and Gretel vibes and maybe even a little bit of Red Riding Hood. Those who like horror stories will fall in love with the details and characters in this book. From the protagonist’s flaws and vulnerability to the minor characters' role in the book, everything draws the reader’s attention. The writing in Bulwark is gorgeous and the descriptions detailed and cinematic; it is darkly engrossing and never lacking that appeal that fans of horror yearn for.
