Anna, and Janus that deepen the narrative. The setting, both historical and
physical, is finely drawn, with images that translate hardship, the thrills of
the moments, and hope that kept this family together and moving towards the
future. You’ll be drawn to the characters, and while Johann’s grit will entice
you, you will find it hard not notice Janus’ stubbornness. The Legacy of
Prairie Winds features well-developed relationships, and I enjoyed how they
bring humanity and realism to the writing. The scenes are well-crafted, and
some will tug at the edges of your heart like Helena’s labor and birth of a
child during a snowstorm, and the struggle of Johann and Janus to save their
home during a devastating tornado. This is a delightful novel, and I was
fascinated by the author’s skill in blending literary elements, such as the
symbolism of the cottonwood, with intriguing characters and themes of family,
community, and grit. The storytelling is superb, and the narrative evokes
seasons of the heart that mirror the changing seasons of Nebraska.
