compelling, complex protagonist who must face the challenges of her career
while caring for her father, Buddy, whose dementia gives a unique edge to her
characterization and the mystery that permeates the writing. The Austin setting
is well written and contrasts the city's progressive veneer with dark
undercurrents of corruption and revenge. The author employs classic mystery
elements, using red herrings such as the boutique owner to misdirect readers
