Jack Winston is a Detective with the NYPD who stares into death’s eyes with every shift. Recently, he flirted with death when he stood trial for the murder of his best friend. The trial generated a ton of ink for the daily tabloids, and the odds for his conviction were high. However, the evidence was relatively circumstantial and the jury acquitted Jack. As the burden of his ordeal begins to abate, Jack resolves to locate who killed his friend and framed him. Jack is blessed with a girlfriend named Caroline, a kind nurse and intrepid sleuth who might have found a lead in Jack’s search. The possible lead brings Jack to the unforgiving depths of New York’s underworld. Jack will need whatever aid he can get as he attempts to piece together the night his life changed forever.

Murder in Black and White possesses the hallmarks of a classic noir mystery thriller. The compelling narrative is composed of noteworthy characteristics: gumshoes searching for elusive justice, the appearance of a femme fatale or two, the menacing presence of organized crime and corruption within the corridors of power. Jack Winston is a smart cop but is determined to find his own way even if that means turning down a promotion to an Intelligence squad or leaving the job to work for the family business. He is inclined to take risks but doesn’t discard the advice of his sage girlfriend. Caroline emerges as Jack’s equal in this excellent tale, brave and caring but also fearless. The author’s willingness to put Jack and Caroline on an even keel distinguishes this fine work and will hold an appeal to those desirous of a ripping yarn of a detective story.
