John Griffin can’t outrun his troublesome past. He served with two different units during the First World War and was wounded twice. He served with distinction, yet a period where he malingered haunts his conscience. His service off the battlefield witnessed him dodging bullets once again as he learned of a plot to sabotage the Peace treaty and prolong the war. He bears physical and psychological scars and resolves to settle scores with the traitors. His plans are thwarted as the local authorities in England are pursuing him for multiple homicides, and John soon becomes an intermediary between the British Government and the US in order to stave off imprisonment. John must return to the US and reach President Woodrow Wilson while dodging assassins.

Stalking Ghosts is the newest animated release in the saga of John Griffin. John Griffin’s actions are motivated by a desire for retribution. Griffin doesn’t seek atonement because he doesn’t believe he deserves it. Griffin’s inner voice is often provided by the ghost of a friend and fellow soldier whose death he thinks he’s responsible for. The interactions between Griffin and Tippy Frederickson provide both levity and pathos. John Griffin is tragic and flawed, yet he is a good man with a righteous mission. The plot's pacing is even, and the action and drama are utilized in equal measure, making for a riveting read. Author Alexander Juden (Red Tiger Hunting) has written a historical fiction/mystery that deftly keeps the readers on their toes. It is cleverly plotted and features a stellar storyteller with emotionally rich scenes, a protagonist whose psyche is finely drawn, a phenomenal conflict, and an immersive historical setting. This novel scores winning points at multiple levels, but the genuinely flawed and unforgettable protagonist will win readers' hearts.
