In Summer Fated to Be Mine, B. Truly delivers an emotionally charged narrative of love, heartbreak, and second chances. It is the first and engaging entry in The Summer Choice series. The story follows Zakiah Morelli, who, along with his brother, shares a tight-knit bond—until the fateful summer they all fall for the same girl, Iliana Kaplan. Zakiah always believed he and Iliana were destined. Still, when it becomes clear her heart isn’t entirely his, the resulting heartbreak fractures his relationship with both Iliana and his brother Elijah. Two years later, love finds Zakiah again in the form of Glory Glover. Still haunted by his first heartbreak, Zakiah resists, afraid to risk his heart a second time. But when his father reveals the identity of his betrothed, Zakiah is forced to confront whether love is meant to be seized or if it’s merely the stuff of fairy tales.

B. Truly is a great storyteller, and I was mesmerized by how he explores the emotional landscapes and the psyches of the characters. The author deftly balances family drama with romance, creating dialogue that feels natural and infused with tension while cleverly developing realistic relationships between the characters. There is a significant dose of pathos in the story. One of the things that captivated me was the character arc, and Zakiah’s evolution in the story kept me both intrigued and hyper interested, wanting to see his responses and what became of him. While love is the central theme in Summer Fated to Be Mine, the author develops personal growth, awareness, and responsibility. Zakiah is a sympathetic protagonist whose weakness and internal struggles make him easy to root for. The conflict—both internal and external—drives the story forward, as Zakiah is torn between past and present, duty and desire. The rift between the Morelli brothers augments the emotional stakes. This suspenseful novel about first love kept me awake for the whole night. You can’t put it down. I am waiting for the next book in the series.

How to Plan a Memoir That Readers Cannot Put Down

By Romuald Dzemo  ·

Many first-time memoirists believe that because the events are true, the structure will take care of itself. This is a fatal error. Life is chaotic; narrative is order.
