Lillian Grant has never made the best choice with the men she has dated. Always falling for the wrong guy, the latest of her encounters was a first where the guy turned out to be a full-blown stalker, invading her space and creeping her out. Despite this, Lillian is able to find comfort in every other aspect of her life. With no intentions of starting a relationship and calling it quits, her life takes an unexpected turn as she runs into Hayden McCoy while wandering through a baseball stadium in Texas. Apart from being handsome and charming, Hayden is a Golden Glove winning shortstop, but his playboy reputation precedes him. Lillian is oblivious to the man and his past. After a short but mesmerizing first meet, they both embark on a romantic journey that takes the most unexpected turns.

Coming in from the Outfield by Carrie Wiegman is a romantic story with a scintillating twist in the boy-meets-girl formula. Throughout the plot there are many questions that emerge to keep the reader hooked. As Lillian drops her guard and lets Hayden into her life, we wonder if the latter’s reputation will return or whether the protagonist’s luck of being with the wrong men will rear its head again. Carrie Wiegman creates a strong plot and in a way that is just too fascinating to pass up. It sheds light on and connects the characters in a unique manner through their careers and professions and allowing the conflict to shine through the narrative, moving the story steadily forward. It creates a distinct dynamic in the chemistry that builds between Lillian and Hayden. It is an amazing story that encompasses long-distance relationships and the perils involved especially when it comes to people who have turbulent histories. Readers who enjoy emotionally rich characters and those with a taste for crisp and gorgeous prose will find a lot to relish in Coming in from the Outfield.
