The

protagonist is a character who instantly wins the sympathy of readers. He is a
fifteen-year-old boy who wallows in misery, unloved and uncared for. That is
enough premise for readers who enjoy realistic characters. When Jason finally
finds people who accept and love him, he gets to the verge of losing
everything. Motivation is intelligently written into this beautiful, evenly-paced
story, and while readers will root for Jason, they will want other characters
to be developed even more. The hero of the story is believable and there are
wonderful moments that are cleverly captured. Jason's sense of love and courage
will rub off on readers as they follow his struggle to protect those he
loves. The Unloved is an
