Pandaren is a place inhabited by two types of people: those who
have magical powers, known as the Spectrals, and those with no magical
abilities. Azreal is one of the people from the latter group, but he finds a
way to join the Spectrals after undergoing a process that gives him magical
powers. However, he underestimated the consequences of messing with nature.
Now, Azreal, previously obsessed with power and revenge, must face his fears as
he relives past experiences he’s blocked for several years. He becomes a
liability as the second in command of the Watch Guard, and those who save him
from his team's betrayal are the same people he once hunted. After discovering
truths he was too unwise to learn before, Azreal must choose between the paths
to redemption and vengeance.
Chasing
the Darkness by Cassie Sanchez is a twisty tale that is beautifully paced,
deft, and balanced, a story that is as unpredictable as any can get. The author
weaves themes of magic, revenge, and redemption into the core of the tale’s
fabric, featuring a protagonist that is multidimensional and thrusting him in
the midst of unforeseen circumstances and conflict he couldn’t have anticipated.
With lots of sword fights, adventure, magic, and a little bit of romance, this
book takes readers on a satisfying, exciting journey. The story is not only
intriguing, but it also keeps us guessing as to what lies ahead for the Angel
of Death as he tries to cope with the dramatically painful circumstances of his
life. We're left with a newfound understanding of loyalty, betrayal,
friendship, trust, and love by the end of the book. This review doesn’t do
justice to the beautiful writing and the cunning plot. It is a well-paced,
action-packed fantasy with a rich setting and a world that is captured in lyrical
prose.
