disapproval, and resistance from his boss who reports directly to the CEO of
the company for which he works. He faces a lot of fights from his boss who is
not open to embracing change and innovative ideas. This IT Manager felt
challenged, being unable to enjoy the freedom of doing things his way and being
innovative, micromanaged by a back-office manager who oversaw his work. Follow the
narrative as the IT Manager navigates a toxic work environment, unfriendly
colleagues who pay allegiance to mediocre leadership, and how he embraces his
path to freedom at work. In this book, the author explains what happens when an
employee who is forward-thinking and always looking for ways to grow works with
a boss who is not open to growth and loves stagnation, and complacency.
While
this book reads like a compelling memoir, it is one of the best things I have
read about leadership. The book offers a stunning portrait of what bad
leadership looks like while redefining the place of freedom and autonomy in
one's work and career. The author identifies behaviors that drive mediocrity in
an organization and one of them is the idea of comfort. The reader immediately
understands that where employees feel so comfortable with the status quo, the
company doesn't grow. Principles of change and freedom are expertly examined in
this insightful and engaging book. I enjoyed this author's perspective on
autonomy and delegation of tasks. He defines autonomy at work as: “Autonomy is
a form of freedom; it is autonomous when it regulates or governs itself without
being entirely free.'' Freedom Is
