Marriage Mistake by Ken Saik is another compelling entry in the series. It focuses on the complex nature of Joseph and Jill's marriage and the bond between friends Thomas and Joseph. Each of them is determined to make their relationship work when they decide to get married. But then, while they trust their intentions and the love they share, challenges set in. Can they accept the differences and the challenges creeping in and stay steadfast in their resolve to stay together? The story is set in Camrose, a small city in Alberta, Canada, where the characters face challenges and make decisions that impact their personal lives. The story begins with Thomas visiting Joseph at Bakery Plus, where they discuss their friendship and share stories about Joseph and Jill's recent Hawaiian holiday. Joseph and Jill have a chance to reconnect and have meaningful conversations, ultimately leading to Joseph realizing that his thoughts of separating from Jill have disappeared.

However, a new issue arises when Thomas discovers that Jill is pregnant, altering the couple's plans for their future. Meanwhile, Joseph's former boss, John, proposes to have him work long hours, potentially compromising his family time. Joseph's wife, Jill, surprisingly advises him to accept the job offer, hoping they might use John's condo again. As the story unfolds, Joseph becomes increasingly distant from his family, and Daniel, their son, begins to spend more time with his father in the workshop, learning new skills. However, Jill's actions do not match her words, as she fails to spend quality time with their son, leaving Daniel missing out on bonding moments with his parents. On the other hand, Thomas becomes a voice of reason, offering advice and support to Joseph as he navigates his relationships with Jill and his family. Thomas's character provides a contrasting perspective to the story, allowing readers to see the value of open communication and understanding in relationships.

One of the central themes in Marriage Mistake is the idea of appearances versus reality. On the surface, Joseph and Jill's relationship seems strong, but as the story progresses, it becomes clear that they struggle to connect on a deeper level. Jill's decision to pursue further education, which initially seemed like a personal goal, is motivated by a desire to prove herself to others, specifically her father. Through the character of Jill, the author highlights the challenges faced by individuals who feel pressured to conform and to seek approval, particularly in a close-knit community like the one she lives in. The story raises important questions about the value of education, personal goals, and relationships. The characters are elaborately written, and the writing is filled with heart, a book examining what it means to be in a marital relationship. It is deft, balanced, and resonant.
